Turtle Rescue Project Update, 14 July 2020

After a week of heavy rain and a day or two of hot sunshine to dry and soften the sand, the turtles are eager to lay their eggs under the darkness of night.

At the Tapiche Reserve in the northern Amazon of Peru, we go out every night that the turtles might be out in order to collect the eggs and protect them from poachers that are also out perusing the beaches for eggs and turtles to sell on the black market. We bring the eggs back to protected hatching boxes that we've built at the Tapiche lodge.

This conservation work is extremely demanding, even more so now that we've had to cut expenses and have not been able to employ our local staff to help. If you'd like to help us continue our work during this challenging time, please visit: https://gf.me/u/ybhaqg
